Choosing the right Ring Designs.

Christopher Wharton`s interest in fine jewellery began to emerge during his childhood. His father ran a watchmaker`s and jeweller`s shop, and Chris spent a great deal of time helping with repairs and trying his hand at a few pieces of basic Ring Designs. When he left school, Chris went to Garrards to work as a junior on the shop floor. Then at nineteen, he joined leading London goldsmith designers, to learn how to design and make jewellery by hand. At the age of twenty-three he was ready to set up on his own.
He began by renting bench space in his father`s workshop, and designed and made his first collection of rings in silver. Then he set up on his own and spent his days travelling and selling his work, and his evenings designing jewellery. He gradually built up his staff and moved on to 9 and then 18 carat gold, set with semi precious and precious stone. Now the majority of his work is in platinum, set with diamonds and other precious stones. His main market being platinum diamond engagement rings and wedding bands. His Ring Designs have been accepted by the De Beers Diamond Collection many times over the years.
At the moment, Chris is interested in shaped diamond cuts in his Ring Designs, such as oval and princess cuts. These have been used many times in his designer engagement rings. His designs tend to simple and uncluttered, inspired by the shapes and textures he sees around his all the time. Chris begins a ring design by producing rough sketches and then refines his ideas in more detailed drawings, and finally makes the piece in silver, which can still be modified further before producing the piece in 18 carat gold or platinum.
There are now over 1000 designs in his collection, each one individually conceived and finished to a very high standard, many are specially commissioned. This brochure shows only a selection of the huge range.
When setting fine quality diamonds and precious stones, Christopher Wharton uses only 18 carat gold or platinum for his designer engagement rings and other jewellery. Where practicable, stones of the customers` own selection can be specially cut.
